Edna R. Hancox
Edna R. Hancox, 85, of Canfield, Ohio, died Saturday evening.
Edna was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Valatie, N.Y., the daughter of Harold and Helen (Dewitt) DeWitt and moved to Canfield 55 years ago.
Edna retired from Dr. Jack Schreiber's office in 1989 after more than 25 years and formerly taught at the Mahoning County Vocational School.
She was a member of the St. Michael Church and the Canfield Garden Club, was a founding member of the Canfield Friendship Club and the Canfield Bridge Club and a member of the rosary and Altar Society of the church.
Edna served her country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II as a yeoman second class.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia (Donald) Macmillan of Slippery Rock; a son, Fred (Kay Balcon) Hancox of Washington state; sisters, Dorothy Hoffman of Hillsdale, N.Y., Helen Kukon of Germantown, N.Y., and Vange Murphy of Hasbrouch Heights, N.Y. She also is survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Hancox, Natalie (Jeff) Enslen, Ian (Desiree) Macmillan, Sara (Charles) Flach and Sean (Melissa) Macmillan; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Krista, Hailey, Makenna, Shanna, Ashlyn and Braden.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Harold Hancox, whom she married Feb. 2, 1947, and who died Dec. 1, 2006; and her sister, Mary Maiorano.
