Butler man charged for machete stabbing in city
A Butler man was charged with stabbing someone with a machete Wednesday evening in Butler city, police said Thursday.
Lee Hockenberry, 54, was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail following the incident.
Officers responded to reports of two males in the road around 5:15 p.m. at Franklin Street and WISR Way, one of whom was stabbed.
It was determined Hockenberry was invited to the Penn Street residence of Preston Bartmas, 40, of Butler.. Hockenberry then attempted to rob Bartmas, punching him in the head and eventually stabbing him in the right arm and the head, police said.
The weapon was left in the apartment when the men moved the fight outside, documents showed.
Both were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries. Police said a machete with a serrated edge and covered in blood was recovered from the scene.
Hockenberry was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary disorderly conduct.
