Dorothy Margaret Fontaine Rodgers

Dorothy Margaret Fontaine Rodgers, 86, passed away Thursday in Butler.

She was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Butler, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Fontaine.

She married Herman “Chic” Rodgers in 1951 and was widowed June 26, 1985.

She was a pioneer, the first female Sparkle Market manager, Associates Loan manager, Butler Consumer repossession manger and the Center Township secretary-treasurer.

Dorothy worked as an entrepreneur, co-founding Hey Electric and Rodgers Dairy Queen.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, serving in the Legion of Mary and Perpetual Adoration. She was an Eucharistic Minister and a Sunday school teacher.

She volunteered for D&R Dances, The Wall, Habitat for Humanity and countless other ministries. She was the president of Tanglewood Center, and she also worked as a caterer, raising more than $140,000 for charities.

Dorothy loved gardening and had double green thumbs. She also wrote children's books and a Butler Eagle column.

Dorothy loved God, his Mother Mary and canasta with family.

She is survived by her second husband, Don Kovacevic.

She is the mother of 10 (18) children: her sons, James, Herman (Pat), Frank (Gail), Rex (Sherry), Tom (Diane), Mark (Esther, Stephanie) and David; and her daughters, Gayle, Theresa (Kirk) Fox and Tina (Greg) Glenn.

She had said, “I have always wanted to have 17 children so Jesus could be in all those places.”

She was also the proud grandmother of 36 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces and nephews and many of their pets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill (Polly), Jim (Louise) and Herald, and survived by Irma Fontaine.

RODGERS — Friends of Dorothy Margaret Fontaine Rodgers, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext. with the Rev.
