Mars’ Orosz, McLaren extending careers
ADAMS TWP — Mars seniors Zach Orosz and Tom McLaren recently signed letters of intent to continue their academic and baseball careers in college.
Both are four-year members of the Mars Area High School baseball program. Orosz is headed to Mount Union College in Alliance,. Ohio. His major is undecided. McLaren is going to Washington & Jefferson and will major in finance.
The Planets were 14-5 last baseball season, winning their section title with an 11-1 record.
Butler grad Bryan gets save for Pitt
PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Nash Bryan tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season Friday as the University of Pittsburgh baseball team defeated Virginia Tech, 5-4.
Mars graduate Jack Anderson produced the game-tying single in the seventh inning. The Panthers improved to 10-9 on the season, 2-3 in ACC play. Virginia Techn is 13-8, 1-6.
Mars’ Donnelly wins hoop contest
NATRONA HEIGHTS — Mars senior Olivia Donnelly won the girls individual hot shot competition during festivities Friday night at the Cager Classic, hosted by Highlands High School.
The Cager Classic basketball all-star games takes place Saturday at Highlands. The girls game is at 5:30 p.m., the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
A-C Valley graduate wins PSAC award
SLIPPERY ROCK — A-C Valley graduate and Slippery Rock University jumper Baylee Blauser has been named PSAC Women’s Indoor Track Freshman of the Year.
Blauser earned All-Region honors in the long jump and posted the No. 2 mark with an NCAA provisional leap of 5.83 meters. She also ranked eighth in the PSAC in the triple jump this winter.
Brown wins again in harness racing
WASHINGTON, PA. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown continued his winning ways in harness racing Friday at Holllywood Casino at The Meadows, driving Sandbetweenmytoes to victory in the $19,200 Open Handicap Pace.
Brown had won a pair of series championships at The Meadows earlier in the week.
