Candidates lacking in many primary races
Many municipal offices open in the May 16 primary are lacking candidates to fill them, according to the Butler County Election Bureau.
Most of the offices without candidates are in boroughs, but one school district, a few townships and Butler City also have open offices that no one is running for.
Primary voters can write in names of candidates for open positions, but they can’t write names that already appear on the ballot.
In the Slippery Rock Area School District, incumbent Mark Taylor is the only candidate for two open positions to represent Region 1. He is running for the Republican Party nomination. School board members are elected to four year terms in office.
