County commissioners recently awarded a little more than $89,100 in park renovation grants for 12 projects in the county.

At their meeting Wednesday, commissioners awarded 12 grants from a list of 21 applications for funding. Most of the grants were $7,500 and some were slightly less, and each municipality is contributing to its project.

The most expensive project is a $289,566 walking trial and a playground in Slippery Rock.

The borough received a $245,000 grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development for the project, and the commissioners approved a $7,500 grant.

A nonprofit organization created by the borough, Slippery Rock Township and the Slippery Rock Area School District is paying for the rest of the project.

Seven Fields was awarded $7,500 toward a $94,000 project to add fencing and anti-slip flooring around its swimming pool and install a drop ceiling and lighting to the pool restrooms.

Harmony received a $7,500 grant toward a $63,500 project to add topsoil and install rubber matting around playground equipment at Old Schoolhouse Playground. The borough is applying for a state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant for the rest of the project funding.

Jefferson Township was awarded a $7,500 grant toward a $19,200 project to restore and renovate the GFWC pavilion and another pavilion. The GFWC project is an extension of the installation of a metal roof on the pavilion last year, which also received a grant from the county.

Commissioners awarded Portersville a $7,500 grant for a $16,801 project to replace the border and engineered wood fiber around a play set and swing set and buy paint for the playground area.

East Butler received $7,500 toward a $12,538 project to install turf for the pitcher’s mound and home plate, and buy concrete and decking for a ballpark.

Buffalo Township was awarded a $7,500 grant toward a $10,965 project to install posts and gates along the Butler-Freeport Community Trail.

Commissioners awarded Center Township $7,500 toward a $10,525 project that includes rehabilitating ball fields, improvements to areas around ball fields, grading a hillside at a ball field to create seating options and adding stairs and a railing on the hillside.

Karns City received a $7,500 grant toward a $10,200 project to remove stairs and extend a walking path through a park and build a new set of stairs to connect the walking path to the upper ball fields and parking area in the park.

Bruin was awarded a $7,312 grant toward a $9,750 project to install a new kitchen area, glass block windows and pavilion lighting at a park.

Chicora received a $7,200 grant for a $9,600 project to build a concrete bridge over Buffalo Creek to provide access to restrooms at the borough park.

Commissioners awarded Eau Claire a $7,182 grant toward a $9,577 project to buy two four-row bleachers for a newly fenced ball field, and sealing and coating the basketball court.
