Heavy rain, possible tornado in forecast for Wednesday

Rain showers beginning Wednesday, April 5, will grow more severe by nighttime and bring heavy rain and a chance of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

A warm front with temperatures reaching 79 degrees will move off to the north Wednesday before a cold front moves in and brings showers and a possible thunderstorm with winds between 13 and 17 mph.

An isolated cluster of mostly marginal thunderstorms will move into the county around 6 p.m. and bring the chance of “relatively weak” tornadoes, said David Shallenberger, a meteorologist with the weather service.

That line of thunderstorms will move off by 11 p.m., but heavy rainfall with possible minor flooding will continue through the night and end Thursday afternoon, he said.

A total of 1 inch of rain is possible Wednesday and Thursday, he said.

Predictions are for the sky to clear Thursday night and for sunny weather through the weekend with high temperatures in the mid-50s to the mid-60s, and overnight low temperatures near freezing.
