Casey running for reelection to U.S. Senate
U.S. Sen Bob Casey, D-Pa., announced Monday that he is beginning his bid for his fourth six-year term in office by running in the upcoming primary election.
“I’m running for reelection because with so much on the line for Pennsylvania’s working families, I want to keep delivering results for Pennsylvania,” said Casey. “There’s still more work to cut through the gridlock, stand up to powerful corporate special interests, and make the lives of hardworking Pennsylvanians a little bit easier. I won’t back down from any fight for communities and families across our Commonwealth.”
Among the accomplishments of his 18 years in office, Casey said he supported the CHIPS Act to give American workers a leg up and is fighting back against unfair trade practices by China.
The act, which was signed into law in August last year, provides $52.7 billion for American semiconductor research, development, manufacturing and workforce development.
The funding includes $39 billion in manufacturing incentives, including $2 billion for the legacy computer chips used in automobiles and defense systems, $13.2 billion in research and development and workforce development, and $500 million to provide for international information communications technology security and semiconductor supply chain activities. It also provides a 25% investment tax credit for capital expenses for manufacturing semiconductors and related equipment.
Casey, of Scranton, said he supported legislation that capped the cost of insulin for seniors and expanded access to veterans’ health care.
He said he delivered full funding for the Montgomery Locks and Dam project on the Upper Ohio from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Casey said he supported the STURDY Act that helps parents keep children safe by strengthening safety standards for free-standing dressers to stop accidents, and supported the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which helps ensure pregnant workers are treated fairly on the job.
As chairman of the Senate Aging Committee, Casey he helps seniors by standing up to banks to protect pensions, and opposes efforts to privatize Social Security in the stock market.
Before he was first elected in 2006 to the Senate, Casey served eight years as the state auditor general and two years as state treasurer.
