Gladys G. Abes

Gladys G. Abes, 84, of Butler passed away at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fair Winds Manor.

She was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Louis Gluck and Freada Oster Gluck.

Mrs. Abes was an alumni of Ohio University, Class of 1949.

She was a teacher in the Butler School District, a Realtor and helped with her husband's home improvement business.

Mrs. Abes was active in her synagogue, Congregation B'nai Abraham, and was a member of Sisterhood and Hadassah.

She was an avid golfer and tennis player.

Mrs. Abes is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alan (Lauren) Mallinger of Pittsburgh; one son, Jonathan (Lisa) Abes of Woodbridge, Va.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard S. Abes, who she married Sept. 9, 1951, and who passed away Feb. 18, 2011; and by two brothers, Bernie and Daniel Gluck.

<B>ABES</B> — There will be no public visitation. A graveside service for Gladys G. Abes, who died Saturday, June 18, 2011, will be at 3 p.m. today at the B’nai Abraham Cemetery with Rabbi Charles Diamond officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania, 1100 Liberty Ave., Ste. 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, Butler.
