House burned on Vogleyville Road called a total loss
SUMMIT TWP — A single-family home overlooking the Butler-Freeport Community Trail is a total loss following a fire, according to friends and family members who saw the house.
Multiple fire departments were dispatched just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, to reports of a structure fire at 10 Vogleyville Road, which is off Herman Road.
It is not known if anyone was home at the time.
Firefighters filled their tankers at a hydrant in the 400 block of Ziegler Avenue and brought the water to the blaze, where they had to back up the tankers up a long, gravel hill to access the home.
Cyclists, joggers and others using the community trail stopped to ask fire police why a firetruck was parked on the trail off Vogleyville Road as they maneuvered around it.
While firefighters were not immediately available to answer questions for the Eagle, the state police fire marshal could be seen driving up to the fire at about 1:30 p.m.
Friends and family members took water to the firefighters and food to the family.
While many fire departments were seen leaving after 1:30 p.m., a fire policeman managing traffic along Herman Road and blocking Vogleyville Road said the remaining firefighters were finished spraying water and had begun applying foam to the house.
Herman, Saxonburg, Buffalo Township, Oneida Valley and East Butler volunteer fire departments, in addition to Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and Butler Bureau of Fire could be seen at the fire.
There is no word yet on how the fire started or if anyone was injured.
