Dorothy Mae (Heichel) Mercatell
Dorothy Mae (Heichel) Mercatell, 94, of Cabot died Thursday at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.
Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Roy Heichel and Wynona (Douthett) Heichel.
She was a 1940 graduate of Butler High School, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Butler. She was a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church and was a current member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Dorothy loved her family, being a mom was what she was born to be. She nurtured and took care of everyone of her grandchildren and at the age of 89 helped to take care of her two great-grandbaby twins. She always said “They did more for her than she did for them.” A kind heart and a patient soul, she always loved visits from her grandkids, playing with them and, most of all, the hugs and kisses and love they gave her. She will have many grandbabies under her wing in heaven.
Surviving are her four daughters, Linda (Bill) Hinchberger of Slippery Rock, Kathy (Terry) Moore of Sebastian, Fla., Joyce (Joe) Thomas of Butler, and Netty (Jeff) Clinton of Cabot; two sons, Jim (Gail) Mercatell of Cabot and Mike (Esmerelda) Mercatell of Sebastian, Fla.; her grandchildren, Keith (Lisa) Hinchberger, Dave (Holly) Hinchberger, Lisa (Drew) Ecklund, Theresa Collier, Marie Phillips, Kelly (Mike) Buchinsky, Tony (Janice) Mercatell, Joey (Shelby) Mercatell, Steve Hilliard, Stacy Hilliard, Justin (Kelly) Royle, Austin Clinton, Kiley Clinton and James (Claudia) Mercatell; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Palmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mercatell, who she married Oct. 6, 1941, and who died May 26, 1980; his son, Joe Mercatell; his daughter, Carol Chestnut; his son-in-law, Bob Chestnut; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Mercatell; his grandson, Josh Royle; four brothers; and three sisters.
MERCATELL — Friends of Dorothy Mae (Heichel) Mercatell, who died Thursday, June 30, 2016, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
