Mildred Irene (Voelker) Bertoncello
Mildred Irene (Voelker) Bertoncello, 88, of Slippery Rock, Clay Township, Butler County, passed away Friday at the Grove City Medical Center.
She was born in Pittsburgh, North Side, on May 11, 1925, to Jacob A. and Regina Christina Schurer Voelker.
She married Andro Sebastian Bertoncello on May 10, 1947, and he precedes her in death.
A wife, mother, and homemaker, she also completed painting classes and was a member of the Washington School of Art. She played organ and steel guitar. She received numerous “Best of Show,” 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards and ribbons for her paintings, craftwork, sewing, needlepoint quilts, crocheted and knitted items, and baked goods at fairs; and was a vendor of these items at area craft shows.
She had a brief work history as a waitress at Isaly's in Slippery Rock, and as a nurse's aide at Bonetti's Nursing Home in Harrisville.
She also performed in a family band, The Night Owls, with her sons in 1972 and 1973. She was a member of the St. Louis Church in West Sunbury.
Survivors include her sister, Catherine Williamson of Grove City; three sons, Robert Andrew Bertoncello and William Walter Bertoncello, both of Slippery Rock, and Larry Paul Bertoncello and his wife, Emogene, of Butler; two grandsons, Adam Dominic Bertoncello and Evan Alessandro Bertoncello; and several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Matilda Pepler.
BERTONCELLO — The family of Mildred Irene (Voelker) Bertoncello, who passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday.A procession will follow to North Side Cemetery, Butler.
