Cranberry Township supervisor seeks full term on board
Cranberry Township Supervisor Karen Newpol announced her candidacy for reelection to the position Tuesday, April 18.
She was unanimously selected in 2022 to fill the vacant seat of Richard “Dick” Hadley after his death.
According to her announcement, Newpol is a retired graphic designer for the Butler Eagle. She has been married for 35 years and has three adult children who were raised in Cranberry Township.
Newpol has been involved with Cranberry Township since 1997, most recently as an elected Cranberry Township Republican committeewoman. She said she also is a board member and past vice chairwoman of the Cranberry Township Community Chest; a Community Days volunteer; race director for the Community Chase 5K; Sunrise Rotary Club president and past treasurer and secretary, and recipient of the Paul Harris Rotarian of the Year and District Person of Action Awards; a member of the Cranberry Elks Lodge and recipient the Officer of the Year Award; a member of the Women’s Business Network; vice president for the Cranberry Township Historical Society; past member of the Rowan Elementary School parent-teacher-association; Girl and Boy Scout troop leader; and association secretary of the North Pittsburgh Youth Hockey Association.
James Parey, a 24-year-resident of Cranberry Township, is running against Newpol on the Republican ballot for a four-year term.
Republican Supervisors Bruce Mazzoni and John Skorupan will run unopposed in the primary for election to a six-year term. No Democratic candidates are running for supervisor.
Newpol said that since her appointment, she has been involved in the township’s budgeting process and has met with all the departments including finance, public works, water/sewer, EMS, police, fire department, parks and recreation, communications, and the library.
The primary election is May 16, and the general election will be Nov. 7.
