Alfred H. McCollough
Alfred H. "Al" McCollough, 96, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Oct. 3.
Born Jan. 2, 1909, in Chicora, he was the son of Oliver Merrile and Elizabeth Hannah Garing McCollough.
He helped build St. Jude Golf Course near Kepples Corners.
Mr. McCollough was educated at Beckley College in Harrisburg and at Rutgers University and joined Rayon Publishing Corp. in New York, N.Y., as an office manager, assistant to the president and soon became executive president and publisher of Modern Textile and Modern Knitting Management.
He served on the advisory board for the Fashion Institute in New York City and the Department of Textiles at Cornell University. He received numerous awards in the textile field and was active in numerous civic activities.
In 1984, he retired and moved from Bronxville, N.Y., to Punta Gorda, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorthea "Polly" McCollough; a son-in-law; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; a sister, Beryle Edwards of Chicora; and two brothers, Stanley McCollough of Renfrew and Lester McCollough of Sanford, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Detrich McCollough, and a daughter.
