Jewel Watson

Jewel L. Rippy Watson, 101, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Fombell, passed away Tuesday surrounded by her loving family at the Home 2 Me Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice.

Born Nov. 22, 1910, in Stoney, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Tobe and Myrtle (Burrow) Rippy.

Jewel was a member of the Grace Church of Harmony, where she assisted at many church functions. She was a 1949 graduate of Geneva College and taught elementary education for 44 years in Oklahoma, Bloomfield, Perry Highway Schools in Lancaster Township, Harmony Borough School and Connoquenessing Valley Joint Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Hobbyettes and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

Jewel's family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for its wonderful care and compassion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester Watson, who passed away Aug. 16, 1993; her son, Jimmy Rodgers Watson; and five sisters.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her five children, Wyndle L. Watson and his wife, Rose Marie, of Mars, Homer L. Watson and his wife, Mary Lou, of Clarion, Gilbert W. Watson and his wife, Mary, of Saxonburg, Jack R. Watson and his wife, Sally, of Grove City and Patricia Brown of Jamestown, Pa.; her sister, Clovis Bunce of Oregon; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

WATSON — Jewel L. Rippy Watson passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Jewel’s family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Funeral services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Grace Church of Harmony, 538 Main St., Harmony, with the Rev. Peter J. Everett officiating.
