Kudos to the bystanders who helped at Friday crash
When someone’s life was in danger this past Friday, bystanders jumped into action.
Matt Springer, lieutenant for Harmony Volunteer Fire District, in a Monday interview told the Butler Eagle that he was returning home from a friend’s house when he heard a call about a crash at New Castle and Linden streets around 10:30 p.m.
He was close, so he headed in that direction.
There, he found three people working to unlock the driver’s door. The driver was unconscious and unresponsive, he said.
Before he could retrieve a hammer to help, the three broke a window, and one who was a nurse crawled into the vehicle to administer CPR.
Springer said he did not have an update on the driver’s condition and is unsure how the crash occurred. We hope for the best outcome for the driver.
Not too long ago, a hasty response from first responders in Butler helped save the life of Ryan Davidson, 36, of Butler. The crash occurred on Fairground Hill Road in late November. Davidson had a seizure before the crash, we reported on Dec. 2, 2022.
The Honda CR-V was fully engulfed in flames 30 seconds after three heroic first responders pulled him from the burning vehicle, police said at that time.
Kudos to these citizens who stepped up to help a stranger in need. In those situations, every minute matters. It’s the quick actions of others that can make all the difference in the world.
