Clair Johnston

Clair V. Johnston, 89, of Butler passed away Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on April 22, 1925, in Tartown, to the late Vern Johnston and Mabel Cogley Johnston.

Mr. Johnston was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving in World War II in Guam.

He was a foreman at Pullman Standard, then worked as an independent carpenter.

Mr. Johnston attended Homemaker Chapel. He enjoyed carpentry.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his son, Larry Lee Johnston and his wife, Amy “Cathy,” of Norfolk, Va.; his daughter, Linda Suzanna Timblin and her husband, Paul, of Butler; his eight grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Harland Johnston and his wife, Donna, of Arizona and Dale Johnston and his wife, Judy, of North Carolina; his three sisters, Gloria Bowser and her husband, Dick, of Rimer, Connie Kelly and her husband, Roy, of Sarver and Charlotte Goering and her husband, Bob, of Cook Forest, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta “Jean” Johnston, who he married on April 22, 1946, and who passed away on June 7, 2013; his son, Douglas Clair Johnston, and his brother, Jim Johnston.

Johnston — The friends of Clair V. Johnston, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Pastor Michael Charles of the Portersville Bible Church officiating.
