Daniel Wright

Daniel Wright, most recently of East Brady, passed away Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.

He was born July 27, 1949, in Meadville, to James and Laurel Allen Wright.

He was a 1967 graduate of Warren High School and a 1977 graduate of Oregon State University.

Mr. Wright served in U.S. Army Intelligence in Vietnam, where he was wounded twice while on assignments. Shortly after redeployment to Akron, Ohio, Mr. Wright was assigned to investigate a college campus disturbance for which the National Guard had been called out. This resulted in his witnessing firsthand the now famous Kent State student shootings and led to his lifelong interest in politics.

Mr. Wright enjoyed fishing, especially in Oregon and Alaska, where he had lived for many years. He also enjoyed collecting old marbles, gardening and restoring collectible radios.

Most recently, Mr. Wright was employed at Applied Test Systems of East Butler.

In 1973, Daniel Wright married Camille Crooks with whom he had a son, Nathan B. (Carol) Wright of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. In 2002, he married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Stewart, (WHS 1969), after reconnecting with her through Classmates.com after 33 years apart.

In addition to his wife, Gayle and his son, he is survived by his father, James Wright of Yreka, Calif.; his mother and stepfather, Laurel and Gil Bateman of Hanover, Pa.; brothers, Norman (Joanne) Wright and David (Claudine) Wright of California; a sister, Beverly Reed of Oregon; a great-aunt, Elizabeth Alday of Dewittville, N.Y.; his father-in-law and-mother-in-law, Clifford and Phyllis Maze of Sugar Grove, Warren County; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

<B>WRIGHT</B> — The funeral for Daniel Wright, who died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the <B>Freay Funeral Home</B>, 139 S. Erie St., Mayville, N.Y., with the his uncle, Charles Wright, a retired minister of Mayville, officiating. Burial will follow at Bemus Point Cemetery.Those wishing to make a memorial are encouraged to contribute to the Chicora United Methodist Church Improvements Fund, c/o N. Wagner, 175 Cartwright Road, Chicora, PA 16025.
