Baggetta opts for Bucknell

Butler senior still has lofty expectations in triple jump

BUTLER TWP — Megan Baggetta will be leaving one standout track and field program for another.

The Butler senior and stellar triple jumper will continue her academic and track and field career at Bucknell University. She plans to major in psychology.

Baggetta has been part of WPIAL championship teams with the Golden Tornado and is a two-time state placer in the triple jump. She is also Butler’s top long-jumper and runs a leg of the team’s 4x100 meter relay.

She holds the school indoor triple jump record of 38 feet, 2.5 inches. he owns the outdoor record as well at 39 feet.

“She was jumping 38 or 39 feet at the end of last season,” Butler girls track coach John Williams said. “Megan was hitting those numbers two weeks into this season. She’s well ahead of her pace from last year.

“I think she has a genuine shot at hitting 40 feet this season. That would be a neat thing because not many high school girls do that.”
