Johnston, Brown succeed at races

WASHINGTON, Pa. — DP Super Special rallied to win an $8,000 Conditioned/Claiming Trot for Evans City driver/trainer Aaron Johnston during harness racing action Saturday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 5-year-old gelding ran the race in a career-best 1 minute, 57.2 seconds on a sloppy surface.

Elsewhere on the card, Slippery Rock’s Brady Brown drove Lyon’s Lou to victory in a $7,000 Conditioned Pace. The 4-year-old horse ran a career-fastest time of 1:52.4.

Knoch grad Geist wins hammer throw

Knoch graduate and University of Arizona field athlete Jordan Geist won the hammer throw recently at the PAC-12 Championships with a throw of 242.2 feet.

The throw was the longest by any athlete in that event at the conference championship meet since 1996. Geist also became the first athlete to win the PAC-12 hammer throw, shot put and discus in a career.
