Butler Township awards bids for paving
BUTLER TWP — The township will spend about $527,000 to pave and seal-coat roads this summer.
At a meeting Monday, May 15, township commissioners voted to award the 2023 seal coat project to Russell Standard for nearly $368,000 and the 2023 paving project to Wiest Asphalt for nearly $159,000.
Dave Meeder, the township’s director of public works, said administrators have not made a final decision on which roads will be paved this year, but the work typically takes place in the summer while school is not in session.
Also, the township will use money from the Butler County Infrastructure Grant for a stormwater and asphalt restoration project on Arlington Avenue.
Commissioners voted to advertise for bids for the project at Monday’s meeting, and the bid could be awarded as soon as the board’s next meeting.
“The Arlington Avenue project picks up where the Schaffner Road project left off last year,” township manager Tom Knights said. “The design is almost completed. We intend to have this project actually out to bid prior to the next township commissioners meeting.”
Knights said the work on the project could begin in September and be completed the same month, or October at the latest.
