M. Helen Wigton

M. Helen Wigton, 89, a resident of Branchton Road, Slippery Rock, for more than 60 years, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born in Forestville, June 6, 1921, she was the daughter of Derwood H. Bell and Linnie J. (Hockenberry) Bell.

A 1938 graduate of Butler High School, she had been a gift shop manager at Stop 8 in Barkeyville. She also was the former assistant post master in Branchton, worked on the assembly line at the former P. Wall Manufacturing in Grove City and was a clerk at the New Hope general store.

Mrs. Wigton was a member of the Branchton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She belonged to the United Methodist Women and was a former church treasurer and former Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the AARP.

She was an avid reader, a former hunter, enjoyed crossword puzzles and collected tea pots, humming birds, bells and tea cups.

Her husband, Earl V. Wigton, who she married Aug. 31, 1938, died Feb. 27, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Harriet E. Gross and her husband, Gerald W., of Grove City; two sons, Barry V. Wigton and his wife, Marion, of Saunderstown, R.I., and L. Kevin Wigton of Davison, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Louise G. Dillaman of Butler, F. Arlene Bell of Grove City, Isabell Grossman and her husband, Humes, of Harrisville, Ruth G. Relfe of Deland, Fla., and Donna Kelly and her husband, Frank, of Lisbon, Venango County; and a brother, Ronald D. Bell and his wife, Lorraine, of Warren, Pa.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

<B>WIGTON</B> — Friends of M. Helen Wigton, who died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. A. James Lewis of Branchton United Methodist Church officiating.
