Christena E. Filges

Christena E. Filges, 89, formerly of Center Drive in Oakland Township, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born in Great Belt, Sept. 19, 1916, she was the daughter of Henry and Amelia Wagner Strobel.

Mrs. Filges was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and her pets. At the medical center, she had many friends and enjoyed the activities, especially playing cards.

She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Everett Filges, whom she married Dec. 25, 1938; two daughters, Joyce Reeves and her husband, Donald, of Chicora and Lois Bell and her friend, Joe McCrea, of Fenelton; two sons, Dennis Filges and his friend, Marge Watterson, of Chicora and David Filges and his wife, Evon, of New Kent, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Kevin Reeves, Karen Fencil, Kelli Rensel, Mark Reeves, Gretchen St. Clair, Erin and Eric Dumbaugh and Brian, Christine, Ashley, Adam and Alex Filges; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Laverna Check of Great Belt; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Barnhart of Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot and Mathenia Strobel of Saxonburg; and many nieces and nephews.

A son, Paul Filges; a daughter, Linda Filges; four brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

FILGES — Friends of Christena E. Filges, who died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Funeral services will be held Friday at a location and time to be published in Thursday's newspaper.
