Good to see businesses investing in Butler County

This week, we reported on more than 100,000 square-feet of new business, more than $11 million in investment and numerous new job opportunities added to Butler County.

Between Tuesday and Thursday, three businesses made the news for their substantial investment in Butler County and we want to thank them — and others who choose Butler County to do business — for that investment.

On Tuesday, Bayer opened a new $11 million, 60,000-square-foot raw materials hub at 150 Victory Road, outside of Saxonburg. Alfred Merz, senior vice president of product supply medical device operations at Bayer, cited increasing demand for its products worldwide and said the space “represents an investment in our operations in the Pittsburgh region.”

The decision to put down even more substantial roots here in Butler County comes after the company reports Bayer Pittsburgh has increased its workforce by 15% over the past three years at its three Western Pennsylvania sites, two in Allegheny County and one in Butler County’s Clinton Township.

Across the three local sites, Bayer employs nearly 1,900 people.

Bayer opened its medical device manufacturing facility in Clinton Township in 2007.

On Wednesday, PennEnergy Resources opened its headquarters in the township, adding another 40,000 square feet of business at 3000 Westinghouse Drive. The complex includes a gym and on-site day care. The latter has potential to alleviate some of the struggle for working parents in search of child care.

Richard Weber, company CEO and chairman said the company’s headquarters were in Robinson Township in Allegheny County, but a satellite office was located in Cranberry Township.

When both the leases at those locations came to an end at nearly the same time, the company chose Cranberry Township for its new location.

He cited a central location as a draw to Butler County, saying a “substantial portion of our operations are in Butler County” and that the company is also active in Beaver and Armstrong counties.

According to Weber, the facility employs 126 people.

And to continue a trend of new businesses, on Thursday, a new GetGo Cafe + Market at 1800 Three Degree Road in Adams Township celebrated its grand opening.

We are happy seeing this kind of investment in Butler County and hope to see it continue into the summer.
