Lucille Naugle

Lucille McCandless Naugle, 86, of 504 E. Laurel Blvd., New Castle, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday at Jameson Hospital, North, New Castle.

Born March 21, 1919, in Butler, she was the daughter of James T. McCandless, who died in 1947, and Lida Albert McCandless, who died in 1968.

She was a 1937 alumna of Butler High School and a graduate of The Butler Business School.

Ms. Naugle was completing her 50th year as a church secretary and in 1993 the Quota Club honored her as Secretary of the Year. She was secretary at New Covenant Evangelical Church for the past 10 years and secretary at Second Presbyterian Church for 39 years. She formerly had been secretary to the principal of Union Memorial Elementary School.

She was a member of the New Covenant E.P. Church in New Castle, where she sang in the choir and attended Sunday school. She also had taught the third grade Sunday school at Second Presbyterian Church for years.

She lived her entire life in service for our Lord; and her many church activities included helping others with visits, which often included taking her famous apple dumplings. She taught all her grandchildren in Sunday school and helped establish their faith foundation.

She was noted for her organizational skills and her wonder memory of names. Every completed task showed her detailed perfection. She loved being with her family and giggling about farm stories from when she grew up in Butler. Her greatest joy was her church family and having God use her in his ministry on earth.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Judith E. Naugle of New Castle; three grandchildren, Markus Naugle (Laura Wheelock) of Eastsound, Wash., Alyson (Bryan) Totten of Evanston, Ill., and Natalie (David) Skergan of Raleigh, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Isabel Carpenter of Sycamore, Ill.; Banks Totten of Evanston and Sarah, Rachel and Sophie Skergan, all of Raleigh. A sister, Dorothy Henderson of Grove City, also survives.
