Train sparks fire in Center Township
Nine fire departments responded to a fire on railroad tracks near Pinehurst Road in Center Township Monday afternoon.
The fire was called in at 2:19 p.m. by West Sunbury fire fighter Frank McCall on his way back to the station after responding to another call.
McCall said he thinks a passing train sparked a fire in nearby brush in a heavily wooded area, which spread along the route of the tracks.
Crews had the fire controlled and contained about 4 p.m., although reports of hot spots at the scene could be heard through the emergency dispatch radio after that time.
