John L. Popovich

Popovich

John L. Popovich, 96, of The Orchard in Butler, formerly of Leechburg, died Thursday at Sunnyview Home.

Born Oct. 31, 1910, in Vizsoy, Hungary, he was a son of Andrew and Elizabeth Popovich.

He retired in 1972 as a steelworker at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Leechburg.

Mr. Popovich was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 117 in Butler and VFW Post 330 in Leechburg.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora. He also was a member of A.A.R.P.

Surviving are a brother, Paul Popovich of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, including Mrs. John (Patricia) Tarcha of Butler; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

His wife, Mary L. Szwaja Popovich, whom he married Nov. 30, 1940, died June 27, 1994. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

<B>POPOVICH </B>—<B> </B>Friends of John L. Popovich, who died June 21, 2007, will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Lyndora, with the Rev. George Palick officiating.
