Knoch grad Geist academic all-district

TUCSON, Ariz. — Knoch graduate Jordan Geist, who recently received masters degrees in marketing and finance at the University of Arizona, has been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

He is one of 11 Wildcat track and field members to receive this distinction. A student-athlete must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to qualify.

Geist is headed to the NCAA Track and Field Nationals in Austin, Texas. He won Pac-12 titles in the shot put and hammer throw and was named conference Field Athlete of the Year this season.

Trainers score wins in harness racing

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Trainers Susan Callihan of Chicora and Bob Krenitsky Jr. of Butler enjoyed victories Wednesday during harness racing action Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Callihan trains Aunt Bee, a 6-year-old mare that won an $8,200 Conditioned Trot . She and Greg Callihan of Chicora own the horse.

Krenitsky trains TSM Princess Lexi, a 5-year-old mare that beat 55-1 odds in winning a $10,900 Conditioned Pace.

KC grad Kamenski gets academic honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Karns City graduate Anthony Kamenski, a senior on the Westminster College men’s track and field team, has been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

A history major, Kamenski’s grade point average is 3.51. He placed third in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. He finished the season sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the 400 hurdles.

SRU’s Trueman named 1st-team All-American

MARSHALL, Minn. — Slippery Rock University baseball outfielder/pitcher Luke Trueman was named to first team All-America honors by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association, it was announced Thursday.

Trueman was also previously named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Year in addition to being a first team All-PSAC West choice and earning first team All-Atlantic Region accolades from the D2CCA, the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

SEC to stay with eight-game football schedule for 2024 season

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. — The SEC will use an eight-game conference schedule for the 2024 season, but no decision has been reached for any seasons beyond that.

Chuck Dunlap, director of communications for the SEC, released this information in a series of tweets Thursday afternoon:

“SEC teams will play eight conference games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent during the 2024 season when the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas join the league.

“In addition, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings beginning in 2024. The SEC Championship game will feature the two top teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season.”
