Joseph A. Ryan
Sgt. Maj. Joseph Anthony Ryan of West Long Branch, N.J., died Oct. 3 at his home and into God's care with his loving family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was a native of North Oakland, where he lived until enlisting in the Army in 1947. He retired in 1974 as chief instructor of radar at the signal school after a 27-year career.
Surviving are his beloved and devoted wife, Charlotte Davis Ryan, who he married in 1957; his loving children, Patrick and Franca Ryan of Hamilton, N.J., Debra Clayton of Oceanport, N.J., Michael and Linda Ryan of Flower Mound, Texas, and Peter and Karen Ryan of Jackson, N.J.; and 11 grandchildren.
Born Nov. 29, 1929, in Butler to the late Francis and Mary Irene Ryan, he is survived by five brothers and two sisters, Charles, Donald, William, Hugh and Regis Ryan, and Rosemary Wagner and Jane Crawford.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Robert and James Ryan.
