Ion 'Bruce' Saylor

Ion "Bruce" Saylor, 64, of Girard, Erie County, formerly of Albion, Erie County, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with the Lord Tuesday after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born May 4, 1945, in Butler, son of the late Clair L. and Helen M. Burdick Saylor.

Bruce grew up in the town of Hilliards and graduated from Moniteau High School in 1963. He worked for the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad as a brakeman/conductor and worked as a CNC operator for Anson Tool & Gage and Tetra Tool.

Bruce was a member of the First Alliance Church on Zimmerly Road in Erie and was a member of the Elk Valley Model Railroaders Club. He was a model railroad collector and enjoyed wood crafting. Bruce truly loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was a wonderful husband, soul mate, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue (Saylor) McQueeney; and a grandson, Robert Ion Saylor Jr.

He will be missed by his entire family including his wife, Rebecca J. Saylor of Girard; three daughters, Sandra L. Feldmiller and her husband, Jeff, of Albion, Rhonda L. Saylor of Colorado, and Brenda S. Neudeck and her husband, David, of Chesterfield, Va.; a son, Robert I. Saylor and his wife, Ashley, of Cabot, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Timothy, Curtis, Jeffery, Kimberly, Jennifer, Benjamin, Alissa, Erica and Lauren; one sister, Mrs. Iris Hackathorn of Slippery Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

<B>SAYLOR</B> — Friends of Ion "Bruce" Saylor, who died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Steff-Mattera Funeral Home</B>, 188 E. State St., Albion, and are invited there at 10 a.m. Saturday for the funeral service. Pastor Dave Snyder of the First Alliance Church will officiate.
