Jack D. Shields, Sr.

Jack D. Shields Sr., 92, of Gibsonia passed away peacefully Sunday.

Jack was the beloved husband for 71 years of Shirley (Snowden) Shields; the loving father of Timothy J. (Ann) Shields; the father-in-law of Karen Shields and Connie Shields; the proud grandfather of Megan, Hayley, Charles, Cassie, Courtney and Torrey; and the great-grandfather of Kai, Jax and Taj.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Annabell (Smith) Shields; his siblings, Annabell Moffat, Richard Shields and Audrey Simpson; and his sons, Jack D. Shields Jr. and Charles S. Shields.

Born in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, Jack was an accomplished horseman throughout his childhood.

Upon graduating from Schenley High School, he immediately joined the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist's mate. He was deployed overseas during World War II, where he served 27 months in the Pacific Theater.

After returning to the U.S., he married Shirley, and in 1955 and they founded Shields Asphalt Paving.

Following retirement, Jack took to his lifelong artistic talent creating watercolor and pastel paintings.

Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed.

SHIELDS — The family of Jack D. Shields Sr., who died Sunday, July 31, 2016, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown.Jack's family suggests memorial donations be made to Hosanna Industries, 109 Rinard Lane, Rochester, PA 15074.Please offer condolences at www.schellhaasfh.com.
