William Randall Greenawalt, 71, of Butler died Monday morning in the emergency department of Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Butler, Sept., 17, 1939, a son of the late Randall and Mary Gallagher Greenawalt.

A 1957 graduate of St. Fidelis Seminary in Herman, Bill was an active member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Butler and currently was the president of the Parish Council. He was a past member of the Board of Catholic Charities in Butler. He had been honored to receive a 2011 Manifesting the Kingdom Award by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. The ceremony presenting the awards took place Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.

Bill retired as the marketing and sales manager of the Castle Rubber Co. that had been in East Butler, where he had been employed for more than 25 years. Since then, he drove a BART bus three days week so he could pursue his passion for golf on the other days.

He was staff sergeant in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 49 years, Lynda Bowman Greenawalt. They were married Aug. 5, 1961. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Snow and her husband, Michael, of Beckley, W.Va., and Tania Patricca, and her husband, Albert, of Slippery Rock; six grandchildren, Katie Patricca, Joshua Snow, Seth Patricca, Jessica Snow and Justin and Samuel Patricca; two sisters, Mary Joan (Richard) Schaffner of Mechanicsburg and his twin sister, Kathleen (Joseph) Nowakowski of North Carolina; and a brother, James Greenawalt and his wife, Deann, of Surprise, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Greenawalt.

<B>GREENAWALT </B>— Friends of William Randall Greenawalt, who died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Peter Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. The Rev. Jack Nanz will officiate. Interment will be at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Butler.The Women’s Council of St. Peter’s will recite the rosary at 10:40 a.m. Friday at the church.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
