Cecil L. “Sonny” Slee Jr., 75, of Buffalo Township, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, peacefully, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Sonny was born in Natrona Heights on Nov. 11, 1945, a son of the late Melvena Louise (Lerch) and Cecil L. Slee Sr.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. After the war, Sonny came home and took a job as a coal miner with the BCNR Coal Mine in Russellton. After the coal mine closed, Sonny worked at Penn United in Saxonburg and at Austin Bleach Co. in Mars. He retired in 2005.Sonny was a member of the American Legion Post 683 in Cabot. He enjoyed collecting and working on John Deere and Snapper tractors. He was an avid bingo player and enjoyed his time with all his “bingo” friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, his nieces and nephews and especially his grandchildren.Sonny is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen S. (Garvin) Slee; five children, Robert Slee, of Coaling, Ala., Kevin Slee, of Meridian, Lisa Pennington, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Holly Slee, of Buffalo Township and Cecil and Brandy Slee, of Buffalo Township; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his three sisters, Martha Davis of Maryland, Carole and Charles Kelley of Saxonburg and Phyllis Slee of Butler.Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Elizabeth Mary Slee; sister, Shirley Velicoff; and a brother in law, David Davis.Slee Jr. — Family and friends of Cecil L. “Sonny” Slee Jr., who died Thursday, May 20, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. in the funeral home Tuesday with Pastor Adam Clever, officiating.Burial will be held in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion PO Box 211, Saxonburg, PA 16056.To send a condolence visit, www.redmondfuneralhomeinc.com
