Zelie hires consultant for revitalization
ZELIENOPLE — Zelienople Borough Council approved a contract to pay Town Center Associates $9,000 for help with its revitalization efforts.
Town Center will inventory the borough’s assets and make recommendations as to how to best use and maintain them. It will also help the borough allocate time and resources to attract new businesses and opportunities. The contract was approved at council’s meeting Monday night.
“We feel this organization is the best for us,” said Don Pepe, borough manager.
With the many changes that the borough is going through, the council felt it would be in it’s best interest to hire consultants who could provide help in organizing these changes to best help the borough thrive, Pepe said.
Council also approved a contract to hire T&B Planning for the Historic Preservation Action Plan, which the borough hopes will protect the town’s historical elements.
Council, in conjunction with the Zelienople Historical Society, decided that among the companies bidding for the job, T&B has the specific experience that the town is looking for to preserve its history.
“That was one impressive proposal they gave us,” said Allen Bayer, council president.
The cost to hire T&B is $25,000, half of which is covered by a grant and the other half of which was raised by the historical society, which is ready to get started.
“We need to begin as soon as possible,” said Shelly Kaltenbaugh, borough code enforcement and zoning officer.
“We need to protect the borough,” said Bayer.
In other news, the borough has officially scheduled the reinstallation of the town clock for Nov. 20, in time for the parade on Nov. 25.
The clock was situated at the corner of Main and West New Castle streets and has been undergoing repairs since the spring at The Verdin Company in Cincinnati.
Verdin will also supply the borough with a maintenance schedule to ensure proactive preservation of the artifact.
The clock was made between 1901 and 1910.
