The Butler Rotary Foundation, the nonprofit foundation of the Butler Rotary Club PM, gave $20,000 to the Butler County Community College Foundation for the Adult Literacy Program on Monday evening, June 19, at its Changing of the Guard Dinner at Serventi’s On the Runway.

Barbara Gade, director of the Adult Literacy Program, received the check from David White, club president, and Susan Edwards, Luncheon for Literacy committee member.

The check represents proceeds from the Rotary’s “Luncheon for Literacy” held April 16 at BC3, which featured 32 book-themed tables along with basket and silent auctions. The funds were proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales, basket and silent auctions, and donations representing votes by attendees for their favorite decorated table.

Gade reminded club members that the money pays for scholarships and expenses for those who may have a financial need to complete the program and take the GED test. It also covers costs for students who are enrolled in the English as a second language program.

“Basic education and literacy is one of Rotary International’s focus areas and we, as a club, are proud to support this effort to help individuals succeed in their lives. We are also glad to be part of welcoming diverse people from around the world to our community and help them learn the English language,” White said.
