Caroline A. Wirtz, 78, of Valencia died Wednesday at Sunnyview Home in Butler.

Born in McKeesport on Oct. 3, 1927, she was the daughter of Andrew and Freda Holmgren Semke.

Mrs. Wirtz was a switchboard supervisor for UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

She was a member of the Richland Homemaker's Club and the Butler Moose.

Mrs. Wirtz was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Wirtz, who died June 12, 2000.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Wirtz and his wife, Lee, of Valencia and Allan Wirtz and his wife, Rose, of Callery; five grandsons, Corey, Ryan and Tim Wirtz of Valencia and Justin and Kevin Wirtz of Callery; three great-grandchildren, Braden, Mason and McKenzie Wirtz of Valencia; a brother, Ellis Semke and his wife, Julie, of Cambridge, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. John (Freda) Shoben of West Newton.
