Ruth Engertha Otterson Andersen

Ruth Engertha Otterson Andersen, 97, of Butler passed away early Thursday morning at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Born Oct. 4, 1919, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Magda Fredricksen Otterson.

She was a member of the St. John's Reformed Church where she volunteered for many things, including elder, choir director and Sunday school teacher.

She was a 1942 graduate of Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, where she received her teaching degree. She taught for Butler School District and Slippery Rock School District. She retired in 1979 from Slippery Rock High School.

She also worked at the Butler YWCA in the Adult Program Department, as a flight attendant and as a social worker for the DPA.

She belonged to the Pennsylvania Association of Retired Teachers, past master of Eureka Grange 244 and past president of the Meridian Area Retired Citizens.

She will be remembered for entertaining in her heritage Norwegian costume to many groups in the Butler area.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Rock) Kellerman of Butler; her grandchildren, Emily Ruth (Troy) Beham of East Brady and Joshua Joseph (Jackie) Kellerman of Shippensburg; her great-granddaughter, Kayleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Magda Cress; her brothers, Lincoln and Henry Otterson; and her former husband, Thor Andersen.

ANDERSEN — Visitation for Ruth Engertha Otterson Andersen, who died Thursday, May 11, 2017, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John's Reformed Church, 494 Evans City Road, Butler, with the Rev.
