Plenty of ways to celebrate Independence Day this weekend
There will plenty of opportunities this year to celebrate America’s 247th birthday in Butler County over the Fourth of July weekend.
√ The fourth annual Slippery Rock Independence Day Celebration kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with a formal dedication and raising of the flag on South Main Street. Following the ceremony there will be food vendors, crafts and a carnival from 4 to 10 p.m., with fireworks by Sky King being launched from the Slippery Rock Area Parks & Recreation at 9:55 p.m.
√ The much anticipated annual Big Butler Fair opened Friday and continues over the Fourth of July weekend and through the end of next week. Come visit the largest agricultural fair in Western Pennsylvania, which draws more than 100,000 people.
√ The Mercer-Grove City KOA will be holding its annual Independence Celebration weekend starting on Saturday that will run through Tuesday. Attendees will be able to enjoy a live concert, illusionist show, balloon artist and a Sunday pancake breakfast.
√ Starting on Sunday and running until Wednesday, the Zelienople Historical Society is presenting the VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial at Four Corners Park in Zelienople. The traveling tribute will feature the dog tags of the 7,000 members of the U.S. military who lost their lives in the Global War on Terror.
√ The heat got you beat? Cool off at the Evans City’s EDCO Park pool at 154 W. Main St., for a night swim. Pool opens at 6 p.m. with fireworks to be set off at dusk.
