Rev. Richard Walter Anderson
The Rev. Richard Walter Anderson, 75, of Evans City died Monday at UPMC Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born Dec. 10, 1928, in Omaha, Neb., he was the son of Gunner and Katherine R. Shackelford Anderson.
A graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary, he was ordained in 1954 and served in the ministry for 50 years. Following ordination, he began his ministry in Nebraska. He had been the pastor at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Zelienople for 18 years. He also served with the Area Ministry for two years, Neville Island Presbyterian Church for six years and most recently interim pastor at Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.
Rev. Anderson was a World War II Army veteran, a missionary in Hong Kong, was a board member of the Southwest Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery and was an activist for numerous social, economic and peace issues.
He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Anderson whom he married June 30, 1990; eight children, David Anderson and his wife, Saroj of Boca Raton, Fla., Robyn Howard-Anderson and her husband, Bob, of Santa Barbara, Calif., Scott Anderson and his wife, Michelle, of League City, Texas, Renee Anderson and her husband, Dr. Michael Bertos, of Bedford, Mass., Robert W. Carson II and his wife, Laura, of Mercer, Paul J. Carson and his wife, Heather, of Seven Fields, Kerri Lange and her husband, Rick, of Gibsonia and Kelli Lowe and her husband, Ralph, of Pittsburgh; and 15 grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Marvin "Bud" Anderson of Denver and Roger Anderson of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister, Margery Finch of Omaha.
A brother, the Rev. Dr. Earl Anderson, preceded him in death.
ANDERSON - Friends of the Rev. Richard Walter Anderson, who died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. Dr. N. Graham Standish, pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Bell, the Rev. Lee Dryer and the Rev.
