Frank 'Bruce' Kiern
Frank S. "Bruce" Kiern, 90, of Butler died Tuesday evening at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 18, 1920, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Bronislaw and Agnes (Shiek) Kiernozycki.
He had worked at the Pullman Standard Car Co. in Butler for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.
Bruce was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, the Elks Lodge 170, the Loyal Order of Moose 64 and the Knights of Columbus 866. He was a 60-year charter member of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.
He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with his wife.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
Surviving are his niece, Frances A. Elliott of Butler; a great-niece, Monica A. Reinhart and her husband, Jason, of Cranberry Township; a great-nephew, Benjamin Elliott of Butler; a great-great-niece, Madeline Reinhart; two stepsons, Bruno D. (Janice) Zotter of Fridley, Minn., and Dennis K. (Mary) Zotter of Cabot; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are his cousin in Poland, Stanislawa Makowska, along with her son, Mark Marek and his wife, Nancy, and their daughter, Maria Carmen; and Stanislawa's daughter, Krystina Kaczmar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. (Rothen) Kiern, whom he married June 24, 1964. She died March 7, 2009. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, John Stopera, Joseph Stopera, Charles Kiern and Louis Kiern; and a sister, Sophia (Stopera) Mrochek.
<B>Kiern </B>— Friends of Frank S. "Bruce" Kiern, who died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Penn Avenue, Lyndora. The Rev. George Palick will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.The Bereavement Committee of St. Fidelis Parish will meet at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home for a parish vigil service.Military honors will be performed Saturday at the cemetery by the American Legion/VFW Honor Guard.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
