Bishop

John Coulter Bishop, 83, of Benbrook Road, Butler, a veteran of World War II, went home to be with the Lord at 10 p.m. Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.

Mr. Bishop was born on June 29, 1926, in Jamestown, N.Y. He was the son of Arthur A. Kelly and Margaret L. Bishop.

Mr. Bishop was raised in Emlenton by his grandparents, Arthur and Birdie Bishop.

Mr. Bishop was a Protestant. He enjoyed golfing, hunting deer, gardening and watching his grandsons play football.

John is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Greenert Bishop, whom he married in Washington, Pa., on Sept. 2, 1966.

Mr. Bishop was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II. He was a gunners mate, 3rd Class and served on several ships in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Mr. Bishop retired from Armco Steel in Butler in 1994 after 22 years as an operator at north processing. Since his retirement from Armco, he had worked as a delivery person at Rite Aid Pharmacy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Scott Bishop and his wife, Sue, of Hermitage, Aaron Bishop and his wife, Kimberly, of Chicora, Jennifer McCarren and her husband, Pat, of Butler, Eric E. Bishop, of Sneads, Fla., and John T. Bishop and his wife Tory, of Suffolk, Va.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by a brother, Oakley Kelly.

<B>BISHOP</B> — Friends of John Coulter Bishop, who died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the<B> Hile Funeral Home</B>, 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will follow at noon Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Jenks, pastor of the Faith Fellowship Alliance, officiating.
