Patricia Bibbs
Patricia Ann (Dague) Bibbs, 81, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Ms. Bibbs was born Nov. 24, 1941, in Meadville. She was raised and educated in Butler, and in 1961, she graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., with a major in business. She held administrative assistant positions for American Hardware Corporation in Butler, Mellon Bank N.A. in Pittsburgh and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh. In 1977 she moved to Chicago, where she was employed first by Jenner & Block and then by Fischel & Kahn law firms.
In 1979 Patricia married John Carter Bibbs. The couple moved to Corpus Christi in 1983 following John’s retirement from Westinghouse Electric Corp. John passed away in October 1987. Patricia was active in civic affairs and volunteer activities. She was a member and officer of the Corpus Christi Civitan Club, participated in numerous activities of the New Neighbor League, was a member of the Decora Club and the Texas Jazz Society. Patricia was an active member of First Christian Church, past president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, served on various church committees and was a deacon.
In 2014 Patricia and her longtime friend and companion, Lloyd Holmes (Waldo), moved to Mirador Retirement Community. Through the years, they enjoyed their friends and activities at Mirador until Patricia lost Lloyd in May 2020.
She is survived by her nephews, Mike McElhinny (Laura), of Butler, Jim McElhinny, of Evans City and Joe McElhinny (Vonda), of Butler; a niece, Joan Hatfield, of Butler; and John’s children, Mary Lynn Tucker (Lee), of Wirtz, Va., John Bibbs (Kim), of Benbrook, Texas, and Joan Schlueter (Glen) of Frisco, Texas.
Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred (Dague) McElhinny; and her brother-in-law, Ronald McElhinny.
A memorial service will be conducted at Mirador Retirement Community at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, with Pastor Stephen Strealy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Carter Bibbs Scholarship Fund, already established at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
