Fire destroys everything for Butler family

Firefighters work to stop a fire at 404 East Locust St. in Butler on Monday, July 17. Justin Guido/ Butler Eagle

A Monday, July 17, fire on East Locust Street in Butler “destroyed everything” for a woman and her 7-year-old daughter, including their ability to take care of several pets, which have now either died or been rehomed.

Marissa Claypoole and her daughter, Emma Smith, had lived in one of the apartments since November. Claypoole said Friday, July 21, that she and Emma are trying to move on, and she has been surprised at the support her small family has seen through a GoFundMe page set up by her aunt.

The fundraiser for Claypoole can be found at gofund.me/b94351bc, and the fundraiser for Caszatt can be found at gofund.me/9b6f5617.
