H. Ross Snyder

H. Ross Snyder, 87, of Brady Township died at 7 a.m. Monday at his home.

Born in Slippery Rock, Dec. 10, 1918, he was the son of David Frank Snyder and Ethel Lucille Rodgers.

He was a former member and president of the Slippery Rock School Board.

He was a self-employed farmer. He also was a retired construction worker and had worked for Don Mershimer Construction in Slippery Rock. He was a member of the AFL-CIO Local 323.

Mr. Snyder was an elder and member of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church, and he served on the board of directors of West Liberty Cemetery.

He was a former member of the Butler County Wool Growers and Beekeepers associations.

Surviving are his wife, Laura Ethel Dick Snyder, whom he married June 10, 1940; two daughters, Elizabeth L. "Betty" Alexander of Morgantown, W.Va., and Bonita "Bonnie" Stockslager and her husband, Greg, of Remington, Va.; two sons, David Snyder and his wife, Thelma, of Niles, Ohio, and Timothy "Tim" Snyder and his wife, Linda, of Slippery Rock; and eight grandchildren, Troy, Molly and Ryan Stauffer, Suzanne Brown, Sarah Kargar and Erin, Mark and Matthew Snyder; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Brown; two brothers, Ronald and Chauncey; and a sister, Laura Belle Holstine.

SNYDER — Friends of H. Ross Snyder, who died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Frailey, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at West Liberty Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to West Liberty Presbyterian Church, 833 Church Road; Slippery Rock, PA 16057; or to the VNA Hospice of Western Pennsylvania, 154 Hindman Road; Butler, PA 16001.
