Winberg

John Y. Winberg Sr., 97, of Mars, passed away on Wednesday evening, Aug. 2, 2023, at AHN Wexford Hospital.

Born in Pittsburgh, on April 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Carl and Elsie Yochem Winberg.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps flying B-17s as a rear tail gunner during WWII in the South Pacific theatre.

An artist, John had been the Senior Vice President and Director of Education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

Surviving are a son, John Winberg Jr., of Valencia; three daughters, Jay Berardini (Vincent), of Valencia, and Becky Meals and Rachel Winberg-Hinch (Robert), both of Butler; his grandchildren, Daniel Berardini, Alison and Emily Hinch, and Sydney (Tommy Duprey) and Jordan Meals; and his great-grandchildren, Breydon Kisner and Sienna Meals Duprey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma C. Gutmann Winberg, whom he married on Sept. 18, 1946, and who died on Aug. 31, 2018; by a grandson, Jayson Berardini; and by his brother, Carl Winberg Jr.

WINBERG — Arrangements for John Y. Winberg Sr., who died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, are private under the direction of MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.
