Annabel Cress
Annabel “Pete” Myers Cress, 96, of Butler, peacefully passed away at Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Butler on Sunday evening, Aug. 6, 2023.
Born Aug. 20, 1926, in Karns City, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Annie Sherwin Myers.
She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Reformed Church, Butler, and a member of the Women of Faith.
During World War II, she had worked at Pullman Standard, and then worked at the former Troutman’s clothing store in downtown Butler for 11 years. She also served as the judge of election for Butler Township for many years.
In her younger years she was the first member of the Meridian Baseball Booster Auxiliary, where she had served as a past president. She also bowled for years in the Lads and Lassies bowling league in Butler. She loved doing cryptoquotes, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, cards and many other games and puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Riley and Dawna Cress and her companion Russell Layton, all of Butler; two sons, Russell (Gloria) Cress, of Oil City, and Ronald (Jane) Cress, of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt Junior Cress, whom she married Sept. 12, 1947, and who passed away Dec. 16, 2013; one granddaughter, Kelly Riley; one grandson, Darin Cress; one infant great-grandson, Carson; and her son-in-law, Bernard Riley.
CRESS — Visitation for Annabel “Pete” Myers Cress, who died Sunday evening, Aug. 6, 2023, will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME, 387 Main St., Prospect.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jarrod Crawford officiating.
Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park, Butler.
