Wetzel

Fred Ralph Wetzel, 90, of Grove City, passed away at home on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023. He was born in Cabot, Butler County, on Nov. 29, 1932, and was the son of the late Karl and Elnora (Kroneberg) Wetzel.

Fred worked his entire career as an electrical engineer for Spang in Sandy Lake, Pa. He was a member of East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City, an active member of Romeo’s Bicycling Club and an inventor who built many of the things in their home as well as gifts for others. He also was very active, an avid woodworker and a master of all trades.

Surviving are his wife, Delores L. (Rummel) Wetzel, at home, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1953; four children, Sandra (Mark) Fisher in New Castle, Randy (Sharon) Wetzel in Long Island, Maine, Timothy Wetzel in Grove City and Melinda Baum and her husband, Don Weller, in Glenn Wood Springs, Colo.; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Wetzel in Hermitage. He will be missed by his 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding Fred in death are his parents; one son, Bruce Wetzel; one son-in-law, Paul Baum; and two brothers, Carl and Lavern Wetzel.

WETZEL — A memorial service for Fred Ralph Wetzel, who died Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 East Main St., Grove City, with the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AHN Hospice, 500 Commonwealth Dr., First Floor, Warrendale, PA 15086 (supportahn.org) or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 862, Carnegie, PA 15106 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
