W. Eugene Hoffman
W. Eugene Hoffman, 91 of Mt. Chestnut died Friday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital following an illness.
Born July 6, 1915, in Mt. Chestnut, he was the son of Harry L. and Charlotte May Gruver Hoffman.
He lived at Sugar Creek Rest for the past two years.
He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He was an elder, sang in the church choir, and was known as a Christian Endeavor Leader. He was a former president of the Butler County Area Layman Association.
He was a senior member of the Butler Kiwanis Club, and he was well known for singing in the Kiwanis Ministerial Shows.
Mr. Hoffman served for 12 years as the Franklin Township Tax Collector and also served from 1964 to 1968 as the Butler County Treasurer.
He bred cattle for the American Breeders Service and enjoyed working in his apple orchard, where he was known for his apple cider.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike after working twelve years as a toll collector.
He was a 4-H Leader in Mt. Chestnut, belonged to the United Commercial Travelers, and he was a member of the Saturday Night Church Bowling League and the Tuesday Night Kiwanis Bowling League.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Chaney Hoffman, whom he married Aug. 30, 1947; a son, Larry E. Hoffman of Mt. Chestnut; a daughter, Sharon (Richard) Reed of Mt. Chestnut; five grandchildren, Farrah (Todd) Reed McKinney of Cowansville, Jocelyn (Bob) Hoffman Maxwell of Mt. Chestnut, Stefanie Reed and her fiance, Matthew Cunningham, of Mt. Chestnut, Brandon Hoffman and his fiance, Kayla Cowan, of Butler, and Rebecca L. (Brooks) Hoffman Cheeley of Las Vegas, Nev.; three great grandchildren, Logan Maxwell, Sierra McKinney and Rylee Hoffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, and two sisters.

Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect.The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. John's Reformed Church, Route 68 in Butler, with the Rev. Robert C. Peterson, his church pastor, officiating.
