State issues code Orange air quality alert for Butler County on Monday
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Day alert for today, Monday, Aug. 21, due to ozone levels in Butler and surrounding counties.
Sunshine, high temperatures of around 90 degrees and leftover smoke will likely contribute to eight-hour average concentrations of ozone in the Code Orange range.
Residents can check www.airnow.gov for current conditions in their area.
On a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day, young children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities.
