Helen S. Zellers
Helen S. Zellers, 91, formerly of Seybertown and East Brady, died peacefully Saturday at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
Born Jan. 9, 1928, in Ridgway, she was the only child of John W. and Helen F. (Swift) Zurfluh.
Helen graduated from Ridgway High School in 1945 and Indiana State Teachers College in 1949.
She began teaching in 1949 for East Brady Borough Schools as their first elementary and secondary music teacher. After East Brady Schools became part of Armstrong School District, she retired from there in 1985.
Helen then became the handbell choir director for St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning until she retired Dec. 31, 1995. For many years, she also directed the East Brady Community Choir.
She was an animal lover and had many pets over the years.
Helen also enjoyed the Allegheny River, traveling, golfing, and was a member of Ridgeview/St. Jude Golf Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Shofestall and her husband, Daniel, of Summerville, and her son, Larry Zellers and his wife, Ann, of Burgettstown.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Ricky Simpson and his wife, Tori, and Chris Shofestall; and three great-grandchildren, Jarod, Abby and Rya Simpson.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and her former husband, Val Zellers.

Zellers, who died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev.
